The CB Type Pneumatic Clutch is designed to deliver stable engagement, disengagement, and braking performance in industrial power transmission systems. It is widely used in high-speed cyclic operations, as well as coupling and general drive applications.
The clutch features a simple and robust construction. A steel rim is vulcanized with a pneumatic rubber air tube, and friction shoes are mounted on the air tube using pins. When compressed air is applied, the air tube expands, causing the friction shoes to tightly grip the cylindrical drum or hub, enabling efficient torque transmission or braking.
The torque capacity depends on the applied air pressure and rotational speed, ensuring flexibility across various operating conditions.

Working Principle
The clutch operates through pneumatic actuation:
- Compressed air is introduced into the air tube
- The air tube expands outward
- Friction shoes press against the drum or hub
- Torque is transmitted or braking is achieved
When the air pressure is released, the clutch disengages automatically.

CB clutches are identified by:
Hub diameter (in inches) – contracted inner diameter
Friction lining width (in inches)
Example:
20CB500
→ Designed for a 20-inch diameter hub
→ Friction lining width: 5.00 inches
